Taurus G2C Review: A Reliable Budget Handgun Under $250?

In this article, we'll review the Taurus G2C and find out if it's actually a reliable budget handgun you can buy for under $250.

About Taurus and the G2C

The taurus G2c basic information

Basic information about Taurus firearms

Taurus is the world's largest small arms manufacturer, with production beginning in Brazil in 1941 and arriving in the United States in 1968.  Smith & Wesson and Taurus were previously sister firms, but both remain independent today.

Taurus designed the G2C to be a very affordable and dependable handgun.  Overtime, G2C developed a spotty reputation, but is it deserving of it?

It's reputation actually comes from the earlier version of the what we now know as the G2C.

Originally, the G2C was called the PT111, which was known to be unreliable, but Taurus redesigned the PT111 completely and renamed it G2C.

Although, G2C is a much better gun than it's predecessor, it still has some reported issues.

Using the Taurus G2C - Ergonomics

Grip

The G2C is fairly easy to grip with average size compact handgun grip which does allow for a full grip.  The grip has good texturing, but it could better.

Aim

It's fairly easy to aim with standard rear and front sight.  The sight is large and adjustable, but it becomes very inaccurate at distance.

If you're unhappy with the sight, not to worry it can be removed easily and replace with one that works for you.

Trigger

One issue that has been reported time after time is a gritty trigger.

In addition, the trigger very light and has a short reset.  This allows you to shoot very quickly.

Recoil

The recoil is minimal with a good grip even with the 40.cal model.

Reloading

Reloading is fairly easy with a thumb release that is often hard to reach, but the smooth metal magazine has no problem going in and out of the magazine well.

Concealed Carry

The Taurus G2C is an average size sub compact handgun.  It's fairly easy to conceal with a good concealed carry holster.

However, the grip is fairly long due to the 12 round magazine and it's extension so you may find that the grip does print on clothing depending on your conceal carry position.

Printing can be eliminated with proper mod wing (claw) or wedge.

Appendix carry is average in comfort and functionality.  Although, the longer grip may print, it does allow for easier and quicker draw.

  • Finger Divots -  allow for better grip

Maintenance

Maintenance is fairly standard or average.  Taking the gun apart is simple and done by pulling on the take down levers located on both sides of gun and pulling on the trigger (similar to Glock take down.)

Parts to maintain include the slide, the barrel, and the spring guide ride.  Standard maintenance.

Mods for the G2C are standard.  List does not include frame, slide, firing mechanisms, barrel, etc., mods.

  • Trigger
  • Sights
  • Magazine - extended round magazine or polymer options
  • Grips - added texturing to the grips

Final Thoughts

Although, the Taurus G2C isn't a Hellcat or the P365, overall it's a great budget gun for concealed carry.  Remember it's better to have something than nothing.

For a budget gun under $250 dollar, the G2C is above average in some aspects such as the 13 round capacity, but many continue to report issues with functionality.

If you have money to spend, you should buy a pistol that's on the higher end of the spectrum, but if you're looking for a budget gun, the G2C is a great option.
